6.14.9 Troubleshooting Devices

 

 



 

Introduction

 

The faulty devices for which alarms have been raised can be analyzed from the Web Client interface. There are various options using which the device can be contacted and checked for its current status.

 

 

Pinging the device

 

To ping the device and check if it is Up/down.

  1. Click on the Alarm Details description against a device in the Alarms page. The Alarm properties will be displayed.

  2. Select Ping from the Actions drop down menu.

  3. The Ping-Result will be displayed in a dialog.

 

Note: By default, the ping command set in the system PATH will be taken. If you would like to specifiy a different ping command path, it can be set in the server parameters for the property "FAULT_PING_PATH".

 

 

 

 

Tracerouting the device

 

To traceroute the device to know the history of route as the round-trip times of packets received from each successive host in the route.

  1. Click on the Alarm Details description against a device in the Alarms page. The Alarm properties will be displayed.

  2. Select Traceroute from the Actions drop down menu.

  3. The TraceRoute-Result will be displayed in a dialog.

 

Note: By default, the traceroute command set in the system PATH will be taken. If you would like to specifiy a different traceroute command path, it can be set in the server parameters for the property "FAULT_TRACEROUTE_PATH".

 

 

 

Accessing via TELNET

 

To access the device that raised the alarm using Telnet protocol.

  1. Click on the Alarm Details description against a device in the Alarms page. The Alarm properties will be displayed.

  2. Select Telnet from the Actions drop down menu. The Telnet connection will be established and you will be prompted to enter the credentials.

  3. Enter the username and password in the respective prompts.

Accessing via SSH


To access the device that raised the alarm securely using SSH protocol.

For using the SSH option, the username for that device must be set prior to using the option. A user property named sshUserName must be created, and the SSH username must be stored in this property.

  1. Click on the Alarm Details description against a device in the Alarms page. The Alarm properties will be displayed.

  2. Select SSH from the Actions drop down menu. The SSH connection will be established and you will be prompted to enter the password.

  3. Enter password in the password.
    (The username will be fetched from the userproperty sshUserName for that device)
