The following section is meant for network operators who use the Web NMS Distributed Setup for monitoring network resources/services and management of fault conditions in the network.
Web NMS Distributed Setup provides a highly powerful and user-friendly user interface. The intuitive interface reduces the learning curve of network operators, thereby increasing the productivity. The real-time visualization and the top-to-bottom drill-down view of the management information presented in the client enables the network operators to capture the problems with much ease.
Web NMS client presents the management information in two different approaches:
The first approach is the visual representation of the managed objects representing the network resources in the form of graphical maps, which capture the topological or geographical organization of the network resources.
The other approach is an easy-to-access dynamic data representation in the form of tables, which list the various network resources managed by Web NMS.

Client Type |
Description |
|
Application Client |
A non Web-based interface that can also be accessed as a standalone application. It is bundled with the product and is invoked either from the Launcher or using startApplicationClient.bat/sh present in <server home>/bin directory.
You need to provide the host name, port number, user name and password as inputs in the authentication dialog. Default user name and password are root and public respectively.
|
|
Applet Client |
Is similar to the Application Client in functionality but is invoked from the browser. You need to connect your browser to the server by providing the host name and port number as http://<host name>:9090.
Multiple clients can be started simultaneously in same/different machine. You must specify the appropriate user name and the password (root/public being the default).
|
|
Web Start Client |
Is built over Web NMS Java Application Client base. So, the behavior of the Web Start interface is similar to that of the Application Client.
When launching a Java Web Start-based application for the first time, you download the new client application from the Web. Thereafter, these applications are initiated through a link on a Web page. Applications initialize quickly under Java Web Start, are cached on the client machine, and can be launched remotely offline.

|
Web Client
|
Is a light-weight interface that facilitates connecting to the Central Server using a Web browser over the local network or the internet.
Lower download time and lower bandwidth utilization serve as prime factors of the Web Client. But only limited tasks can be performed from this user interface |
|
Read-only Web Client |
This user-interface is provided to view the data available in the database of the Distributed Mediation Server. It helps you determine the exact network/resource status at a given time.
But, you can only view the data. No configurations are possible. |
For more information on the different Clients options, please refer to Different Client Deployments.
