Service Pack Process



 

Overview

 

A service pack is a collection of bug fixes and minor feature enhancements that can be applied at a single instance over the product. It is an efficient and easy process for maintaining and updating the product. Every service pack version is cumulative and contains the bug fixes of the previous version. During the installation of a service pack, the corresponding files are updated in the product installation directory. When a service pack is developed, all the customers are informed of the service pack and the fixes available in it.

 

Update Manager

 

Update Manager is a tool  distributed with this application for installing the service pack. It can be accessed from the Launcher's Options menu. Update Manager provides a feature wherein the user can query the service pack file or a previous version. On doing this, the user can see the names of the files inside the service pack. It also gives the information of the current version of the service pack installed.

 

The main benefits of the Update Manager are

 

The steps involved in installing a service pack are given below:

  1. Invoke UpdateManager.bat/sh  from <SNMP Adaptor Home>/bin directory to launch AdventNet Update Manager.

  2. Alternatively, click SNMPAdaptorLauncher.bat/sh available under <SNMP Adaptor Home> to invoke the Launcher. The launcher screen comes up. Click "Options" and choose "Update Manager" to bring up the Update Manager wizard.

  3. Click "Install" button to select the installation directory. This will pop up the Installation Wizard.

  4. Browse and select the service pack file in PPM format. Only compatible service pack files are allowed to be loaded. This step enables the "Show Readme", "Back", and "Finish" buttons.

  5. Click "Show Readme" to view the contents of the readme for that particular service pack.

  6. Click "Finish" to install the service pack. The confirmation message informing that the service pack has been successfully installed is displayed.

                   

  1. Close the screen. This will display the Update Manager main screen. The "Uninstall" and "Details" buttons will be enabled.

  2. Click "Exit" to close the screen.

 

Uninstalling Service Pack

The steps involved in uninstalling the service pack are detailed below:

  1. Invoke UpdateManager.bat/sh to launch AdventNet Update Manager.

  2. Alternatively, click SNMPAdaptorLauncher.bat/sh available under <SNMP Adaptor Home> to invoke Launcher. The launcher screen comes up. Click "Options" and "choose" Update Manager to bring up the Update Manager wizard. The installed service packs are displayed.

  3. Select the service pack which you wish to uninstall and click "Uninstall". This brings up the Uninstall screen.

  4. Click "Finish" to complete the uninstallation process. After the successful uninstallation of the service pack, a message is displayed to indicate that.

  5. Click "Close".

   

The product would be reverted to the selected version.
