4.6.10 Stress Validation

Overview

Stress Validation is normally performed on the agent to identify whether its status continues to be alive even after strenuous testing. To test the stability of the agent, SNMP Agent Tester, sends asynchronous requests to a specific OID continuously for a specific period of time. After this, SNMP Agent Tester waits for a specified time. Then SNMP Agent Tester sends a specified number of normal requests to check if the agent responds properly after the strenuous testing. If the agent does not respond, the agent status is declared "Not Responding".

Steps Involved in Stress Validation

To perform stress testing on your agent, follow the steps given below:
  1. Create a project.
  2. Provide the agent information.
  3. Load the required MIBs.
  4. Select Stress from the project tree to open the Stress Validation panel.
  5. Specify the following parameters:
    1. Choose and specify a scalar and/or table column OID. Clicking the "..." button will open the Choose OID dialog with all the scalar / table OIDs of the loaded MIBs listed. For table OIDs you can specify the instance, if required, by clicking the Instance for OID button.
    2. Specify the duration, in seconds, for sending requests. The default value is 10.
    3. Specify the time, in seconds, that the SNMP Agent Tester has to wait, to check whether the agent is alive or not. The default value is 2.
    4. Specify the number of requests that has to be sent to verify the agent's status. The default value is 5.
    5. Select the type of requests that has to be sent.
  6. Click Stress Validation to begin validation.
Upon completion, you can see the number of requests sent and the status of the agent in the Stress Report.
