4.6.9 Performance Validation
Performance Validation is done on the agent
to check the agent's capability when different types of operations are
performed and to find out the approximate performance metric of the agent.
Requests are sent to the agent on a Scalar OID and/or a Table OID for
this purpose. Performance metrics of an agent is defined by the time taken
by the agent to decode the PDU, fill it with the response value, encode
it, and send it across to the manager.
Involved in Performance Validation
Performance Validation involves
the following steps:
- Create a project.
- Provide the agent information.
- Load the required MIBs.
- Select Performance
from the project tree. This opens the Performance Validation panel on
- Specify the following input parameters:
- Choose and select a scalar and / or table OID
to which the request has to be sent. Clicking the "..."
button will open the Choose OID
dialog with all the scalar / table OIDs of the loaded MIBs listed. You
can also send a multivarbind request for testing the performance. Click
Add to add the OIDs
and Close. For table OIDs you
can specify the instance, if required, by clicking the Instance
for OID button.
- Specify the number of requests that have to be
sent to the agent. The default value is 1000.
- Choose the user name for different security levels
in case of an V3 agent. For the user name to appear in the combo box,
you should have added V3 security users.
- Select the type of requests (GET, GETNEXT, GETBULK,
and SET) that have to be sent.
- After specifying all the inputs, click Performance
Validation to begin validation.
Note: Performance Validation is performed
based on the SNMP versions specified in the project settings.
the Validation Reports
After successful validation, the report
of the validation can be viewed from the bottom of the panel. The reports
specify the total time taken by the agent to respond to a particular type
of request. You have the following options to view the reports:
- You can view the reports of different SNMP versions
(V1, V2c, or V3) by selecting the respective tab.
- You can view the graphical representation of the
reports based on the request type (GET, GETNEXT, SET, or GETBULK) or OID
type (scalar or table) by clicking the respective buttons.
You can also generate
HTML reports of the performed validation.
